Tax Rules with Nigma

Implementing tax rules is the feature that developers overlook the most in ecommerce software. Collecting taxes online can prove to be the most complicated aspect of running your business online. Depending on where your business is located, you may need to collect a variety of taxes depending on your customers billing or shipping information. If your system is not able to automatically handle these rules, you are at risk of paying your customers taxes out of pocket.

Nigma introduces a very simple solution to a complex problem. Nigma is capable of creating tiered tax rules that allow you to, for example, apply a tax to a country but then apply a different tax rate to a zip code within that country. When a customer goes to checkout his address is incrementally used to find a tax rule. Nigma first tries to find a tax rule for this zip code, then his city, the state, the country and finally if a global tax rate is set. The first rule to be found is the one that is used to charge tax for the customer.

Having a system like this will save you as a store owner money and time. This is extremely useful for tax systems such as that of Washington State where taxes may be collected based on the destination of the order and not the sale. Business owners in Washington State are forced to manage over 35,000 tax districts that may change quarterly. Nigma is capable of managing all these tax rules automatically. Combined with a tax import wizard this process can be completely automated.

For a limited time, the developers of Nigma are offering to build import wizards for your state’s tax rules. If your state offers tax rules in a downloadable format, we will build an import wizard so that all you have to do is click a button to import all of your tax rules.
